Garden Mulch: Which Type Is Right For You

There are many different forms of garden mulch that you can either make yourself or purchase. The determining factor that should decide which type you use in your garden is what the main purpose of the mulch will be. If you are just trying to control weeds, then almost any type will do. However, each type of mulch comes with its advantages.

A popular form of garden mulch is made from grass clippings or old leaves. You can easily do this yourself and it will prevent weeds by blocking the sunlight that they need to grow. This can easily blow away and decay so it will need to be replaces often. For someone who does not plan on spending much time just on their garden mulch then perhaps this type is not the right one for you.

Rubber garden mulch does not decay, nor does it need to be replaced very often at all. It is widely used in playgrounds, but it is also effective for the garden. This type will also prevent weeds and is attractive enough to accent any garden perfectly. Plastic garden mulch is also used a lot due to how attractive it makes a garden area look. Most people who use plastic choose to do so because it keeps the soil temperature above average, which is a great way to get new plants to grow earlier.

Gardens are all different. It is desirable to spend more time on the actual plants than taking care of the weeds, which is where mulch comes in handy. It comes in many varieties of material that each serve a specific purpose when it comes to gardening. You should consider the cost, how often it will need to be replaces, and also what it can do for your garden before you decide on which one you think is right.
